Malmok Boarwalk Phase 1+2 commenced and were executed during the Cabinet Wever Croes 1 administration. In continuity of this project a third scope will be put into planing phase at the beginning of 2022.

High-Level Project Scope

• Beautification of the landscape through planting efforts of new palm trees and colorful flora.
• Implementation of a new designated park space area that correlates with the surrounding nature area.
• In partnership with DOW and TPEF will advocate for project to be executed using an environmental responsible approach according to the ROPV.

The Hooiberg is an iconic landmark that represents Aruba. Not only can it be seen on Aruba’s coat of arms but is visible from a majority part of the island due to its central location.
662 steps lead to the top of the mountain and on a clear day Venezuela can be seen. The panamoric views are breathtaking and for long Hooiberg has been visited mainly by the local community.

In the light of a sustainable tourism development to be able to lower the footprint of island visitors on Aruba’s main attractions like the California Lighthouse and the Bushiribana, the Hooiberg was identified as an attraction to develop further by the TPEF.

The bottomhill stairs and recreation area around the gazebo lacked upkeep. Through the investment post and in alignment with the Tourism Policy of 2018-2021 a restoration project was put into effect.
The bottomhill restoration scope included

• Restoration of the Stairs
• Construction of a brand new gazebo
• Upgrade of the surrounding landscaping

The continuity of the Hooiberg restoration project is predicted to take on two more phases. Phase 2 fall within TPEF’s scope while Phase 3 within ATA’s Destination Development Plan

• Beautification of the landscape through planting efforts of new local and colorful flora
• Seek partnership with local mosaic artists to execute mosaic beautification of the gazebo and surrounding area
• Beautify the Hooiberg stairwell going up through colorful paintings

The main objective of Atelier’89 with its Caribbean Linked project is to stimulate the cooperation between Caribbean artists and to broaden their artistic knowledge. The idea is to involve a large public interest in contemporary art in hopes that young Arubans will become more involved.

Program consists out of two components:

1. Website; A platform where all parties can exchange information and keep each other updated on their activities and programs.
2. Summer Program; 10 young talents from different Caribbean island will spend in August 3 weeks in Aruba attending lectures, art discussions and ultimately will produce art pieces that ultimately will be displayed to the public.

Caribbean Linked is organised by Ateliers ’89 in collaboration with ARC and Fresh Milk.

Stimami Sterilisami first started as an initiative project by the Bucuti and Tara Beach Resort. Soon after the once charity project catering to our four-legged friends in need evolved into its own foundation. The overall objective of the project is to stimulate awareness and push a mass spay and neuter program in Aruba.

TPEF has contributed for many years as the main sponsor of Stimami Sterilisami along with Bucuti and Tara which on their end matches florin to florin with every donation.

The Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (co) funded the restoration of the Ecury Complex which hosts the Archeological Museum of Aruba. The building infrastructure was deteriorating and possessed a hazardous environment for visitors. With the archeological museum being a main tourist attraction that displays Aruba’s history TPEF collaborated with the Ministry of Culture to restore the building making it up to par to reopen again.

The Wetlands project will provide a long-term framework to promote conservation of Aruba’s diverse ecological system and critically important wetlands. Wetlands provide habitat for thousands of species of aquatic and terrestrial plants and animals. This project aims at fostering wetlands connectivity via corridors, ensuring that the flora and fauna can move between the wetlands. 

This project will enhance Aruba’s compromise towards sustainable nature experiences, flood protection, water improvement, shoreline erosion control, natural products, recreation, and aesthetics. It will include watch towers, diverse landscaping views, visitor’s center and a museum as well as a multi functional space. All of this will be designed from a nature based perspective. 

The Eagle Beach strip is one of the most visited areas on the island. With the Eagle Beach voted among the best beaches in the world it requires the areas infrastructure to be constantly up to par.

High-Level Project Scope

• Upgrade pedestrian and cycle lanes enhancing safety for island visitors strolling the area
• Upgrade infrastructure of the area
• Seek partnership with hotel and time share properties on the strip through an MOU to ensure maintenance is covered on TPEF’s investment

Since the establishment of the TPEF fund in 2010, TPEF contractors have accounted as the main project post. TPEF employs a total of 10 small contractors whose responsibility includes but are not limited to keeping the landscaping and cleanliness up to par within their respective zones. 

The zones that fall within the radius of TPEF contractors stretches all along Aruba’s coastline starting from Arashi all the way to Baby Beach and are overseen by the DOW.

Construction of a sustainable eco-friendly Boardwalk designated for pedestrians and cyclists stretching from the Fisherman’s Hut to Boca Catalina.

Some of the amenities included in the scope of this project are:

• Scenic coastline wooden boardwalk strip

• Bus Stop restructure
• Designated pedestrian lane
• Designated cyclist lane
• Low horizon lightning
• Side Parking

Before any construction took place, the Archeological Museum conducted a historical assessment of the site to determine if there were any ancient indian burial sites and/or indication of a former settlement. The study came back positive, and hereby construction began using only sustainable tactics with the main focus to keep the area’s flora intact. The idea is to built with nature, not against it.

The main objectivity of this investment project was to enhance the safety within the Malmok strip area. The former situation deemed to be unsafe and hazardous for everyone that was using the Malmok Strip. Now pedastrians, cyclists and motorists have a new enhanced infrastructure to enjoy the scenic breathing taking views Malmok has to offer.
